THE ROLE
This is a lead role within the companies Vessel & Resource Department with responsibility for managing the drilling department, acting as the primary liaison between the office, Project Managers and drill crew, and to providing line supervision of offshore geotechnical drilling operations.
You will liaise with Group managers and Project Managers to ensure the equipment and materials are suitably prepared for planned projects and mobilised by agreed deadlines as well as contributing to bid preparation.
You will have to fully understand any contractual requirements to ensure the client specification is achieved and that all technical drilling requirements of the contract are met or exceeded and verify field operations by way of defined reporting structures.
During operations and using the information gained, you will advise on the efficiency of drilling equipment and advise on changes of drill bits of rotary drilling system according to nature of strata encountered.
Responsibility for the maintenance of the drill rigs and associated tools and equipment rests with the Drilling Manager and includes adequate planning for operations and mobilisations etc, maximising efficiency and minimising down time - including record keeping and KPI information as well as historic drilling records.
In conjunction with the QHSE department you will ensure that offshore HSE culture and systems are communicated to and followed by the drilling team. It is also essential that you are able to keep appropriate records and produce reports including recommendations for equipment improvement and new developments.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Educated to degree level or equivalent (preferred Engineering discipline) - we are looking for a highly motivated individual with significant industry experience and previous supervisory or management experience of running drilling operations and teams. It would be advantageous to have worked with heave compensated or geotechnical drilling equipment.
